- I hug my books. It might not be a weird thing to some people, to others it might make them think I'm a little loopy but I'm talking full on bear-hugging. It usually happens when I'm reading a book that I find really adorable and it's making me feel all the feels and when it's finished I can't wrap my mind around how good it was and how emotional I am so I just pull it into my chest and squeeze as hard as I can until the corners start hurting me - or until I get scared that I'm going to ruin it. I'm not going to lie, it's happened a lot with Fangirl. Sometimes I just sit in front of my bookshelf and embrace that beauty until my mum catches me.
- Smelling books might not technically be 'strange' as it's a common thing I've noticed with readers. It's just such a nice thing to do and the scent of books - especially old books is one of my favourite scents ever. I'm still waiting for an 'old books' candle or perfume.
- I read out loud - but only if there's a lengthy speech. As you might have guessed - I did this one a lot during Heir of Fire. AND I have specific voices that I do for different characters and if I do the voice wrong then I need to keep repeating it over and over until I get it spot on. I had a real hoot saying 'she was the heir of ash and fire, and she would bow to no one'. I also read Hazel and Gus' Eulogies out loud which led to a few tears (or a lot).
- Number 3 was a pretty decent segway into this one I think. I cry at books, all the time. And I don't mean a trickle of tears, when I cry at a book I go all out. I have mascara stains in my TFIOS book because I couldn't hold my head up for crying so much so I just cried into the book. I'm not even going to mention how much I cried at Eclipse.
- I can't read lying down. Honestly, I envy everyone who can. I just find it so uncomfortable.
- Baths help me with my reading (No, I don't have a magical, robot bathtub). If I'm struggling to get through a book I just run a nice, hot, bubble bath and it usually helps me get through the book a lot quicker. Although, now that I'm thinking about it - how cool would it be to have a robot bathtub that reads to you.
- If I'm enjoying a book I'll carry it absolutely everywhere with me. Even if it's just around my house. Going to the kitchen? Gotta take this book. Need the loo? Wait let me grab my book, I'm a Celebrity is on? Where's my book. Half the time I don't even read it - It's there just in case I get a long enough break while peeing to get a few pages in.

Weird Bookish Things I Do
Thursday, 27 November 2014
I won't deny it. I'm a fangirl. Sometimes this leads to me flailing around, crying or squealing for no apparent reason. It also leads to a few awkward moments when talking about certain books *cough* TFIOS *cough* and over the years I've been reading, I've realised that I have a few weird habits when it comes to reading and I'm going to share them with you.

I'm a sucker for reading the Harry Potter novels out loud and anything by Kate DiCamillo. I've tried it with other books, but I don't find it nearly as satisfying.
ReplyDeleteI've never read Harry Potter but if the books are as badass as the movies then I can see why!
DeleteI HUG MY BOOKS TOO! *high five* Also, you are AWESOME because you read passages aloud. I could probably never do that, but I think it's so cool that each character has their own voice and stuff. Heir of Fire is probably the best one to read out loud because it's literally 600 pages of badass-ness XD
ReplyDeleteLoved this post, Natalie!
Rita xx
YAY FOR BOOK HUGGING! (I actually just brought Girl Online and I hugged the heck outta that one)
DeleteHeir of Fire was amazing to read out loud! It gave me the biggest sense of satisfaction haha.
Thanks for reading and commenting, Rita! Hope you see you here again soon ;) xx
I don't hug my books, and I only cry when someone dies. But reading while lying down is one of my favorite spots. I just lie on my side so my arms won't get so tired, and that way, I also get some light from the window. It's great!
ReplyDeleteAnd you definitely have to read books aloud with accents. That would be insanely fun. :D
I cry all the time! When a couple I really ship breaks up, when someone dies, when there's a quote that breaks my heart, when I'm frustrated - maybe I'm just a crier.
Delete1. I also hug new books. When I bought them or got them as a present, I always wrap my arms around it, haha.
ReplyDelete5. The only way I can read in back is on my side with my e-reader tucked on another pillow, so it can rest on there. Books and lying down don't work together for me either.
7. Haha, me too! I would take it with me under the shower if I could too, haha.
Ahh, I'm glad we're on the same page!
DeleteI think they should invent little book umbrellas that you can attach to the book so that we can read in the shower without ruining the little pretties x
